Community to Gather for Fallen Soldier's Procession

Veterans to show patriotic support Sunday for family of Specialist Jonathan Batista.

residents and tri-boro veterans will come together and line the shoulders of Kinnelon Road Sunday afternoon as a hearse carrying the body of fallen soldier Specialist Jonathan Batista will bring the Kinnelon resident home.

Elmer Bott of the Butler VFW Post 8096 informed members of the procession and asked that veterans come to Kinnelon prepared at 2:15 p.m. with flags and veteran hats. The procession will begin at Scanlan Funeral Home, in Pompton Plains, and end at OLM. The hearse is expected to pass by the Kinnelon Municipal Building between 2:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.

A Kinnelon Borough official confirmed private viewing hours will be held at OLM for family members and close friends only at 3 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Monday morning with burial to follow, the official said.
