Snow Routes in Effect in Kinnelon Thursday

A look at everything you need to know about the storm.

Snow is blowing, and the National Weather Service is predicting the possibility of a few more snow showers through Wednesday. Kinnelon-Butler Patch will provide updates throughout the "snow day" about everything you need to know.

  • You Should Know When Snow Routes Are in Effect: Snow routes will be in effect for on Thursday morning.
  • You Should Not Plow Onto Roads, Park on Roads, Or Drive on Roads Before Cleaning Your Car: Kinnelon police will be i to homeowners for having contractors plow snow from their driveways onto roadways, as well as for vehicles parked on borough roadways and for drivers operating vehicles without first cleaning the snow and ice off. A parking ban is also in effect in Butler.
  • You Need to Know What to Do Indoors: We put together a few ideas of things you could do with your kids, or without, if you just don't enjoy playing in the snow. 
  • You Need to Know Morris County Municipal Offices Open Late: The Morris County municipal offices will open at 10 a.m., and the Board of the Chosen Freeholders will meet at 10:30 a.m. instead of 9:30 a.m. 
  • Testing Postponed: Due to Wednesday's school closure, the Kinnelon School District announced that math midterms for seventh- and eighth-graders will be held on Thursday and Friday, while sixth-graders will take the exam on Friday.
  • State Offices To Have Delayed Opening: Gov. Chris Christie announced Tuesday night that all state offices will open two hours late Wednesday.
  • School's Out: The Kinnelon School District announced Tuesday night all schools will be closed Wednesday. Bloomingdale and Butler Public Schools will also be closed, with all after-school activities cancelled. St. Anthony of Padua School in Butler is also closed.
  • Sports Postponed: The Butler High School and Kinnelon High School indoor track meets as has the Kinnelon High girls basketball game against Morristown-Beard.
  • Clean Off Your Vehicles: Kinnelon Police off vehicles to avoid a $75 fine.
  • Be Safe on the Roads: If you have to be on the roads in the snow, the Division of Highway Traffic and Safety encourages the following steps: Tune up and winterize their vehicles, as well as check the radiator, battery, antifreeze, and all other fluid levels. Check tire treads and replace them if they're unsafe. Check and replace windshield wiper blades if the rubber is cracked and/or brittle, and be sure to check and refill the washer fluid reservoir. Maintain at least a half a tank of gas during the winter to prevent the fuel line from freezing.
