This Week on Patch: 9/11, Back to School and More

Special features, news stories and everything you need to know about this important September week.

This week is no ordinary week.

This week, tri-boro students will return to their desks, eager and ready to learn and athletes will kick off their fall sports season. This week the tri-boro will also remember the lives of neighbors lost on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 with Butler and Bloomingdale's annual Candlelight Walk and the dedication of a in Kinnelon.

Tri-boro Patch has been preparing for this week for the past month, planning adequate coverage of events and lining up a few interesting and informative feature and in-depth stories. We hope you enjoy what we've put together and come back for more in the weeks that follow.

Here's a look at a few things we have coming up:

  • We'll show you what a few tri-boro residents had to say about what the anniversary of 9/11 means to them in a special compilation video.
  • We've got a special edition of our 5 Things You Need to Know Today column ready to go that will share the five things every student should stock their backpacks with and where parents can buy the items for a reasonable price in the area.
  • Patchs statewide will take a closer look at educational curriculum regarding 9/11 and Tri-boro Patch will share what is being done locally in tri-boro school districts to teach students about the event and the special anniversary.
  • We'll have photo galleries of the first day of school at Kinnelon Public Schools (Tuesday) and Butler and Bloomingdale Public Schools (Wednesday).
  • We'll bring you the story of a Kinnelon police officer who responded the day of 9/11.
  • Recipe writer Cheri Orlando will bring you a recipe for a special meal to pack your kids for lunch.
  • You'll be able to take a closer look at the new anti-bullying legislation in effect in school districts across the state and the direct impact it will have on students in tri-boro schools.
  • We'll have stories about two Kinnelon victims' family members and what they are doing on this year's anniversary.
  • We'll have complete coverage of all 9/11-related activities on Sunday, including Kinnelon's dedication ceremony at 1:30 p.m. in front of the and the Butler and Bloomingdale Candlelight Walk beginning at 7 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Municipal Building, 101 Hamburg Turnpike.

In addition to these stories, and more, we'll be covering school board and council meetings as usual, and bringing you several athletic team previews from both and . We will also kick off our fall sports coverage later in the week, particularly with the beginning of this year's football season.
