Transparency, Infrastructure Investment Mayor's New Year's Resolutions

Butler mayor hopes Mother Nature brings an easy 2013.

As people all across the world look forward to a new year, Bloomingdale Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy already had a few New Year's resolutions in mind. Six, in fact.

Dunleavy said he hopes to promote smart growth in the borough by declaring redevelopment areas and bringing in new revenue to help stabilize taxes. He also wants to explore all possible shared services agreements the borough could enter into and invest in Bloomingdale's infrastructure, an issue that has come up a few times in the past year.

Resident awareness and participation are also important to Dunleavy in 2013, as he said he hopes to "make sure all residents are aware of the business of the borough" and will promote residents getting involved in the process.

In Mayor Robert Alviene is resolving for fiscal responsibility.

"We hope to stay on budget, which I'm sure every mayor has said," he said.

Alviene said he is also hopeful that weather events will not continue in the pattern of years past.

"Hopefully, we'll have an easier year, as far as hurricanes," he said.

Kinnelon Mayor Robert Collins said he hopes for residents' health and well-being in 2013.

"I'm hoping that everyone has a prosperous and happy and healthy new year," he said.

Last week, we asked readers what they thought could be improved in the tri-boro in the coming year.

One reader said she would like to see more businesses attracted to downtown Butler while another suggested a place be created for pets to run free.

"I would like to see a dog park someplace you can take a dog to run and play with other dogs. Only for tri-boro because other towns won't let our dogs in their parks," Naomi Crum said.
