Trunk or Treat a Safe Halloween Alternative in Kinnelon

Hundreds turn out for event at Kinnelon High School.

Trick or Treating is special for kids young and old. In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Sandy, the fun that is the holiday looked like it might not happen.

But trunk or treating came to the Kinnelon High School parking lot as an alternative.

"I had a discussion with the mayor that our town is just not safe enough for the kids to be walking around with the downed wires and trees," Councilman Jim Freda said. "We decided to do this so the kids didn't miss Halloween and try to bring back a little sense of normalcy."

I think it was by far a safe and convenient alternative, espicially having three little people to hang onto. I would like to see this done every year, and maybe even have a trunk decorating contest just for fun.

This should be reserved only for unusual circumstances. Other than that get out there and walk. Our children need all the outdoors they can get.

Just wanted everyone to know that the donations we collected at Trunk or Treat were dropped off in Bay Head NJ on Sunday. The residents of Bay Head were very grateful for all the items that we collected. This was a great event and thank you to everyone that helped make it a success.
