If you were keeping up with us on the , formerly known as Hurricane Irene, Saturday night and into Sunday, you know what your local officials had to say about what was going on throughout the three boroughs.

But while we confirmed road closures, flooded streets and power outages with police, Department of Public Works and Office of Emergency Management officials, you should know that we also relied pretty heavily on you to give us a heads up about what was going on in your own neighborhoods so we could ask them about it.

Several readers emailed us directly, but many of you kept in touch through the Tri-Boro Patch Facebook page. Readers told us about the conditions as they were happening:

"Butler Fire Dept. is out in full force pumping basements in my neighborhood. Some neighbors were hit hard :o( 20 inches in my next door neighbors basement/garage :o( Thanks to all the volunteers who put their needs aside to help others. Restores my faith in the human race. stay safe people!"
