Wind Advisory Issued in Tri-boro

Morris County could experience high winds until about 6 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Motorists and pedestrians could be at risk for falling branches due to winds expected in the tri-boro Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory through 6 p.m. Winds between 21 and 24 mph with gusts of up to 44 mph are expected to follow an arctic front expected Friday morning.

"As much colder air surges into the area, the westerly winds will increase and turn rather gusty throughout the day," reads a weather alert from the NWS.

The winds could possibly knock down power lines, making the area at risk for power outages, the NWS said.

The NWS advised motorists to use caution while driving, since high winds can knock down branches and make lighter objects airborne. Homeowners are encouraged to secure objects such as garbage cans and patio furniture.
