There is a tasty way to help out some Kinnelon High School students soon.
The Women of Smoke Rise are hosting a chili and macaroni and cheese cook off later this month.
Proceeds from the event will help fund the organization’s scholarship fund.
“We are women of compassion and action,” said Vice President Sunita Narma.
The non-profit is a group of women between 25 and 80 years old that’s been serving Kinnelon for more than 50 years.
The non-profit helps a variety of local organizations annually, hosts blood drives, and throws a Halloween party for children at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.
The organization also awards thousands of dollars in scholarships annually to high school students. Last year the group awarded five scholarships worth $5,500. The group would like to award seven scholarships this year worth about $8,000.
Participants and judges are needed for the cook off.
The cook off will be held at the Kiel Avenue firehouse from noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 26. People of any age may make an entry. There is a $10 entry fee.
