Healthy Techniques For Mind, Body, And Spirit

Healthy Techniques To Improve Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Welcome to my blog!

I will be blogging about ideas and techniques you can utilize to improve your life on a daily basis. Too often we rush from place to place with a list of all we need to get done never seeing the need to slow down and replenish. We often have our thoughts on the past or worries about the future and miss the many gifts in the present moment. This blog will focus on healthy techniques to relax your mind, body and spirit with the goal to bring more relaxation and joy into your life.

From early on in my life I was fascinated with the field of psychology. How does the mind work? What makes some people happy and others struggle to feel joy? How does one's history affect their behavior in the present? What is stress, why does it become overwhelming at times and how can one lessen it's effects? All of this led me to graduate with a bachelor's in psychology. Shortly thereafter I graduated with  master's in social work, majoring in direct practice. That was 25 years ago and I have been blessed with a career I love and enjoy.

I am grateful for every client who has come  to share their concerns or pain with me and together we journey on a path of improvement in their lives. Shortly after graduate school, I entered a five-year post graduate training program in psychoanalysis. One of the requirements to graduate was that I had to be in my own analysis three times a week. It was one of the best investments I made because it made me aware of who I am and how I operate on a conscious and subconscious basis.

I learned how I defend against stress, how I function well, and where I need improvement. My self awareness still continues as I grow, expand and always test out various paths to self improvement. I am a daily meditator and have been for years.  I completed the Transcendental Meditation Program and The Silva Method. Over the years, I have trained in many meditation disciplines and each has it's own value. I intend to share in future blogs the importance of meditating and the very profound effect such a practice can have on in your life. I will explain some basic techniques to get you started if you'd like to experience some of the many benefits a daily practice of meditation can offer.

Three years ago, I completed a year-long course in New York City on how to integrate psychotherapy with spirituality. The Association of Spirituality and Psychotherapy had  an incredible program. Every four weeks psychotherapists from various disciplines shared their knowledge on how they worked in their practice.  There were therapists who used body/mind techniques such as Nia , mindful techniques employed in Buddhism, hypnosis etc. The last section was Energy Psychology.  I became fascinated by this new and up-and-coming field. I sought out training and found a program and became certified.

I will share techniques from energy psychotherapy in future blogs that you can utilize to decrease  stress. Energy techniques can also be used to enhance performance. I work with a local soccer team on how to improve their game and maximize their bodies' energy for the sport. I will share a sports blog as well.  I am an avid reader, constantly exploring how I can improve myself, as well as the quality of my life. I will also share books and films that can assist in making life more fulfilling on a daily basis. As we all become more happy and at peace with ourselves, this radiates out to our families, community and the larger world.

Self understanding and improvement are lifelong endeavors. I never consider myself done and I'm always interested in ways to improve on my quality of life. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with all of you as we grow, expand and evolve into our highest and best selves.

Disclaimer: It's important to state that this blog cannot be nor ever will be a substitute for psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is done in a confidential intimate setting and is beyond the scope, practice and purpose of this blog.
