Starbucks vs. Dunkin Donuts

Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts? Which I prefer and why.

Now that high school calls for me to wake up at 5:30 every morning, I need coffee.

But where do I get it? Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts? What's the difference in price, product variety, atmosphere and most importantly, taste?

Well let's start with the price. What's the difference in price of a small coffee from Dunkin' Donuts and a small coffee from Starbucks? A tall (the smallest option) coffee at Starbucks is $1.40 and $1.19 at Dunkin' Donuts. That is a 21 cent difference! If someone goes to DD (instead of Starbucks) every day for a year and only gets a small coffee, they would save $76.65.

When going to either Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks, I look for more than good coffee. I look for some comfort snacks that go well with the warm caffeinated drink. Personally, I feel that Dunkin' Donuts has a wider variety of food. For example, their famous donuts, munchkins, breakfast and much more. However, Starbucks has muffins, cakes, strudels and sandwiches that go well with their coffee.

So which is better?

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 62 percent of adults say they drink coffee. Thirty-five percent say they don't drink coffee.

Of those Americans who do drink coffee, 23 percent say they are more likely to buy it from Starbucks. Fourteen percent of those surveyed said they get their coffee from Dunkin' Donuts.

Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks also have different atmospheres. When I walk into Dunkin' Donuts, I feel fruity, light and wanting to leave. However when I walk into Starbucks, I feel warm, dark colors and inspiration. There is beautiful furniture and fireplaces at Starbucks, while at DD there is only some tables and occasionally some ice cream. When I think of Starbucks, I think of interviews, Mac computers and business. When I think of DD, I only think of early morning cheap coffee. When I walk into Starbucks, I see young business people on their computers taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi that most Dunkin' Donuts do not provide.

So, overall, if you are torn between Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks, I am sure your taste buds will be extremely satisfied with the comfort and great taste of Starbucks' coffee, my prefered choice.
