Bloomingdale residents can receive grants to replace their roofs, fix their heating system, or install improvements for handicapped from Passaic County.
The money is made available through the Passaic County Housing Rehabilitation Program.
The program is so lower-income residents can fix and repair “critical housing rehabilitation problems,” according to the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
Applicants’ annual salary must be less than 80 percent of the median income of Bergen and Passaic County residents. Applicants must own and live in a single-family home as their “principal residence.”
Grants cannot exceed $7,500. The money may only be used to repair or replace: roofs, heating systems, and water and sewer lines, conduct radon remediation, or install improvements for handicapped residents.
Funds are provided through a Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
