Boy, 13, Charged With Marijuana Possession in School

Police said staff member found boy to allegedly have marijuana.

A 13-year-old student was charged with possession of marijuana on school property Monday after said a staff member allegedly found him with it.

When police arrived at the school around 3:20 p.m., the student was in the principal’s office. Police questioned the boy once his mother arrived and transported him to the Kinnelon police station. He was later released with a ticket to appear in court.

Kinnelon police responded to an accident on Saturday where police said Smoke Rise Security informed them a 2004 Chevrolet had gone off the road and crashed on East Shore Drive.

The driver was charged with DWI.

Police said they were alerted of the accident at 2:14 a.m. and there were no occupants of the vehicle at the scene when they arrived. After running information for registration, police said the Chevrolet came back as belonging to an 18-year-old resident of Garden Place.

Ptl. Melissa Huizenga went to the residence and found Nataniel A. Merino standing outside. Merino allegedly identified himself and told police he had run off the roadway and a passerby drove him home.

While being interviewed, police said Merino allegedly appeared to be intoxicated and admitted to drinking. He was arrested and transported to the Kinnelon police station.

In addition to the DWI charges, Merino was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving and driving after hours on a provisional license. He was released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
