2-Car Crash Shuts Down Route 23, Fuel Spilled on Highway

Hamburg woman collided with car making left-hand turn from Morse Avenue.

A two-car crash on Route 23 at the intersection of Morse Avenue, in Butler, shut down several lanes of Route 23 Tuesday night around 11 p.m.

Neither driver was injured but fuel from one of the cars leaked out on to the highway, prompting the Butler Volunteer Fire Department to respond in addition to police.

According to Butler Police Capt. Ciro Chimento, the driver of a 2007 Pontiac, a 49-year-old Hamburg woman, was driving south on Route 23 when she collided with a 2010 Mini Cooper being driven by a 53-year-old Kinnelon woman. The Kinnelon woman was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Morse Avenue on to Route 23.

Officers investigated the scene for about an hour and are continuing an investigation into the cause of the collision. No summonses have been issued.
