Allegedly Intoxicated Teens Crash Car Into Tree

The following arrest information was supplied by the Kinnelon Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Four 17-year-old males were found hiding in bushes, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, on Tower Hill Road after police responded to a car crash where they allegedly fled the scene on Tuesday.

Police responded to the scene at 2:33 a.m. where they found the 1996 Toyota in a tree, with heavy damage to the vehicle, and a vodka bottle and beer cans in and around the vehicle. A Smoke Rise security guard was speaking to a 17-year-old male at the scene who allegedly stated that he was a passenger in the vehicle and then identified another 17-year-old male who lived in the neighborhood as the driver.

Police said Sgt. Joseph Napoletano responded to the home of the person who was identified as the driver, but discovered that he was home the entire night and was awakened by police. Sgt. Napoletano then found three 17-year-old males who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol hiding in the bushes nearby.

Police determined that all three were passengers in the vehicle when it had crashed and that the male who was speaking with the security guard was, in fact, the driver of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with DWI, underage consumption of alcohol, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, violating a provisional driver’s license by driving after 11 p.m. and violating a provisional driver’s license by having too many passengers in a motor vehicle. The other three males were charged with underage consumption of alcohol. All four were released to their parents.

In other arrests

Dmitry Kolker, 22, of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after police said he was allegedly found with marijuana on the floor of his vehicle after an accident Wednesday.

Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident at 5:45 p.m. on Route 23 in front of Route 23 Automall. The person who had reported the accident allegedly told police there were people outside the vehicles fighting.

Upon arrival, police said they found several people standing near a 2000 Jeep and a 2011 BMW and that David Kremer, 49, of Stockholm, the driver of the Jeep, said that the accident was a result of a road rage incident and that one of the passengers of the BMW had punched him in the face. Police said Kremer could not identify which passenger had allegedly punched him.

While police were investigating, Ptl. Mark Ehrenburg allegedly noticed marijuana in plain sight on the floor of the BMW. Kolker was determined to be in possession of the marijuana and was arrested and transported to the Kinnelon police station. He was issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.

Jonathan R. Smith, 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old male, both of Paramus, were arrested and charged with possession after police said they allegedly found marijuana in the vehicle they were in on Route 23 Tuesday.

According to police, the vehicle, a 2002 Saturn which was being driven by the 17-year-old, was stopped at about 11:27 p.m. for having a loud muffler. Upon further investigation, police said Ptl. Mark Ehrenburg smelled burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed the driver’s eyes were allegedly having severe eye tremors and were red and glassy. Police said the driver had admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that day and said that some people had smoked marijuana in his vehicle. He also allegedly told police that there was a bong and empty bags of marijuana in a backpack in the vehicle.

Ptl. Ehrenburg subsequently searched the vehicle and allegedly found the items, along with a glass pipe in a door compartment of the vehicle.

The driver was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and issued summonses for having a loud muffler, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and violating a provisional driver’s license for driving past 11 p.m. He was released to his parents.

Smith was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
