Apartments Evacuated After Resident Burns Food in Oven

Bloomingdale police respond to reports of two fires on Sunday.

Bloomingdale police responded to two emergency calls in the borough on Sunday.

A caller stated just before 8 p.m. that several apartments on Main Street had filled with smoke and that a fire had broken out in the building’s basement, police said in a press release.

Authorities discovered that someone overcooked food in an oven in one of the apartments and that caused the smoke to fill the apartments, police said.

The Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department shut off the gas to the oven and was able to vent the smoke, police said. Residents were allowed to return to the building. No actual fire occurred and no injures were reported. Officers Daniel Greenwood and Daniel Fletcher responded to the call.
