Bloods Gang Members Among 20 Busted in Morris County-Wide Sting

Violent incidents in fall of 2013 sparked investigation, prosecutor says.

Members of the Bloods street gang committed a host of crimes in Morris County and as a result were arrested and charged in a multi-month investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Eight gang members were among 20 arrested from Morristown, Dover, Victory Gardens, Madison, Wharton and Jackson for drug, weapons, and assault-related offenses, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced Wednesday.

Twenty-one defendants were targeted and one person is still being sought by police, Knapp said.

A number of violent incidents in the fall of 2013 spurred the investigation after an armed robbery and aggravated assault in Dover took place, along with an unrelated shooting, Knapp said. On another date, a large fight occurred in Jefferson Township where several victims were stabbed, Knapp said. As a result of the investigations into those incidents, information was revealed that members of the Bloods gang were part of the incidents, Knapp said.

Over the course of eight months, a variety of enforcement initiatives were employed, Knapp said, including undercover drug purchases, the use of witnesses, search warrants and physical surveillance.

Of the 20 arrested, four were identified as members of the Bloods sets Sex, Mony, Murder; Insane Mob Gang; Piru; and Bevin 793. Another two were known as Bloods associates.

During the sweeping arrests, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, Oxycodone and Ecstasy were all seized. The total street value came to approximately $20,000, Knapp said.

In the spring of 2014, Morristown resident Derrick Reid was charged with slashing a woman in Parsippany, Knapp said. Upon his arrest during the execution of a search warrant, police also apprehended a Bloods gang member in connection with drug distribution.
