Large Crowd Leads to Drug Arrest in Butler

The following arrest information was supplied by the Butler Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A crowd of six people gathered near a vehicle on Main Street in Butler Monday led to the arrest of a 26-year-old Bloomingdale resident for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.

were on routine patrol at about 5:45 p.m. when they noticed a crowd of people near the vehicle while it was still in gear.

After conducting a motor vehicle stop, police said the driver, Charles L. Wassmer Jr., was not wearing his seat belt and had allegedly attempted to conceal contraband as it fell from his pocket. Police noticed the marijuana and arrested Wassmer.

Wassmer was charged with possession of marijuana 50 grams or less, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle with a controlled dangerous substance failure to wear a seat belt and failure to possess a driver’s license. He was released in his own recognizance with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
