Bloomingdale Pair Accused of Scrap Metal Thefts

Teens allegedly stole scrap metal and pipes from a resident's driveway, a business and an abandoned home.

Two Bloomingdale residents were charged with burglary in connection with the theft of scrap metal and piping from two residences and a business last week, Bloomingdale Police said in a press release.

David Wenegrat Jr., 19, and Michael Mazzola, 18, both of Bloomingdale, have been charged with two counts of burglary. Mazzola was also charged with three counts of theft and two counts of criminal mischief.

A homeowner advised police on Aug. 13 that several containers of scrap metal had been stolen from containers in his driveway, police said.

While investigating a possible water leak from a closed business on Glenwild Avenue last Thursday, police discovered a padlock on the rear door was broken and water pipes were damaged, authorities said. Police later learned that a number of items, including metal, were stolen from the establishment.

Through information obtained from that investigation authorities learned that metal piping was taken from an abandoned residence on Reeve Avenue, police said.

An investigation led to D Wenegrat or Mazzola. They were transported to the Passaic County jail.
