The following is a message from Bloomingdale Police Chief Joe Borell that was delivered to telephones registered with Bloomingdale's SWIFTREACH 9-1-1 system.

"This is a message from the Bloomingdale Police Department. In anticipation of Hurricane Irene's arrival it is paramount each resident prepares early for high winds and expected flooding.

Bring in outside furniture, barbeques and decorations. Stock up and have plenty of water and food on hand as well as any needed prescription medications.

Make should you need to vacate your home.

Prepare an emergency pack to include flashlights, radio, batteries, candles, first aid kit, cell phones and other needed essentials.

Remain indoors in a safe place and do not be a sightseer. 9-1-1 is for emergencies only.

Residents are encouraged to on the SWIFTREACH 9-1-1 notification logo, located at the Borough of Bloomingdale and/or the Bloomingdale Police websites in order to receive important emergency notifications."
