Bloomingdale Police Investigating Car Theft

Bloomingdale police said an item went missing from a car dashboard.

are investigating an alleged car theft that police said took place on Star Lake Road on Feb. 6. According to police, Sgt. Mark Johnson and Ptl. David Terpstra responded to a resident on the road who said that during the night, an unknown person had broken into their vehicle's window and removed an item that police said was mounted on the dashboard. 

Police said Sgt. Steven Caputo is handling the investigation and anyone with information should contact the police department at 973-838-0158.

Carlos Lopez-Villegas, 26, of Paterson, was arrested on Feb. 6 on DWI charges. According to police, Lopez-Villegas was operating a motor vehicle on Union Avenue at 5:09 p.m. when Sgt. Michael Boffa stopped his vehicle for speeding. Police said Lopez-Villegas allegedly exhibited signs of intoxication and was arrested. In addition to being charged with DWI, police said he was also charged with several motor vehicle violations.

Lopez-Villegas was turned over to a friend and issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date. Police said his vehicle was impounded and that Ptl. Steven Smith assisted with the arrest.

Kyle Ruffing, 19, of Wayne, was arrested on Feb. 9 on DWI charges. According to police, Ruffing was operating a motor vehicle on Hamburg Turnpike at around 10:15 p.m. when Ptl. Steven Smith stopped his vehicle. Police said Ruffing allegedly exhibited signs of usage of a controlled dangerous substance and was arrested. 

Ruffing was transported to the police station and charged with driving while intoxicated, failing to show documents and several additional violations, police said. Police said he was released to a family member with a ticket to appear in court at a later date. Police also said his vehicle was impounded and that Sgt. Michael Boffa assisted with the arrest.

Kurt Gaiser, 56, of , was arrested on Feb. 11 on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign. According to police, at around 10:40 p.m., Ptl. Michael Fatzer pulled over the vehicle Gaiser was operating on Main Street for allegedly failing to stop at a stop sign. Police said upon further investigation, Fatzer allegedly observed what appeared to be a controlled dangerous substance inside the vehicle.

Gaiser was arrested and transported to the Bloomingdale police station. Police said he was released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date. Police said Sgt. Ronald Frost assisted with the arrest.
