Butler Acting Chief Takes Over Police Department

Other officers appointed to acting positions.

Ciro Chimento has taken over the Butler Police Department as acting chief.

Chimento was previously the department’s lone captain. He took became acting chief Dec. 23 after former Chief Ed Card retired after 30 years.

“Chief Card was a mentor to me and a good friend,” said Chimento, a 21-year veteran with the department. “If it wasn’t for him, I would not be sitting in his chair.”

Other officers have been appointed to acting positions: Michael Moeller is the department’s acting captain and Scott Ricker is the acting lieutenant. One of the department’s three sergeants will take over for Ricker, Chimento said.

Chimento said that another structure could be implemented at some point.

“There is always the possibility of other structure,” Chimento said. “I have to sit down and finalize what the plan could be with the governing body.”
