Butler Fire Department Responds to Car Fire

A Jeep caught on fire in the parking lot of Lowe's, in Butler, Sunday.

Just as the was finishing up its Sunday, they got a call that a car was on fire in the parking lot of on Route 23.

According to Fire Chief Jim Neill, the driver of the Jeep noticed the car was smoking and pulled over in the parking lot of Lowe's where it caught on fire.

"It was fully engulfed when we got there," Neill said.

Neill said the department responded in under two minutes, and that there was noticeable fire on the dashboard of the vehicle, but that the driver was not inside the vehicle and was safe. Members of the happened to be shopping at Lowe's at the time, Neill said, and attempted to put out the fire with extinguishers, but it did not completely stop the fire.

The Butler Fire Department used foam which eventually put out the fire, Neill said.
