Wanted Butler Man Had 33 Packets of Heroin, Sheriff Says

Shaun Bertram faces drug possession and distribution charges following motor vehicle stop Friday in Paterson.

A Butler man with an outstanding warrant for narcotics possession was arrested Friday in Paterson when he was found with 33 packets of heroin, authorities said.

Detectives from the Passaic County Sheriff’s narcotics unit saw Shaun Bertram driving near Maple Street and Totowa Avenue in Paterson at about 11 a.m., Sheriff Richard Berdnik said.

Detectives knew Bertram, 31, had an outstanding warrant, stopped the vehicle he was driving and found him in possession of the bags of heroin, Berdnik said.

Bertram was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and taken to the Passaic County Jail.

Detectives observed Valerie Boyd, 55, who was in the car with Bertram, trying to hide heroin under her seat, Berdnik said. She was found in possession of 48 packets containing heroin, Berdnik said.

Boyd was also charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school.
