Butler Police Arrest Man on Marijuana Charges

Police said man admitted to smoking marijuana.

arrested a North Arlington man on possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges Wednesday after they said he admitted to smoking.

John V. Simoes, 25, was driving on Route 23 South when police said they noticed improperly colored headlights on his vehicle, a 2009 white Honda Accord. When police pulled Simoes’ vehicle over, they said they smelled marijuana from inside.

Simoes allegedly told police that he was coming from West Milford, where he said he had smoked a small quantity of marijuana. Police then searched Simoes’ vehicle and said they found a quantity of marijuana (50 grams or less) and a tool used to inhale marijuana.

Simoes was arrested and transported to the police station. He was released in his own recognizance and issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
