Cab Driver Calls Police After Man Allegedly Refuses to Pay Fare

Police said man charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

A Butler man was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance after police responded to a call Sunday from a Jersey City cab driver who said the man allegedly refused to pay his completed fare.

said Keith Kelly, 25, was the rear passenger in the cab on at approximately 10:53 p.m. when police said they received the call outside a Route 23 South residence. After speaking with the driver, police said they spoke with Kelly and observed him allegedly attempting to conceal a bag of suspected cocaine in the rear seat of the cab.

Kelly was arrested and transported to the Butler police station. He posted bail and was released to a friend with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.

Police also said his friend paid the cab fare before leaving the scene.
