Cops: Sparta Man Found With 7 Bags of Heroin

Police also discover man had $500 warrant out of Sparta.

A Sparta man was allegedly found in possession of seven bags of heroin and 14 empty heroin packages Sunday, according to

Daniel J. McDermott, 28, was charged with possession of dontrolled eangerous substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license and operating a motor vehicle in possession of a CDS.

Police said McDermott was driving on Route 23 at about 12:15 a.m. when Sgt. Robert Findura conducted a random license plate inquiry and noticed McDermott had a warrant for his arrest for $500 out of the Sparta Municipal Court. The vehicle was stopped and McDermott was arrested.

While searching the vehicle during the warrant arrest, police said they found the suspected heroin. McDermott was transported to the Butler police station.

He posted $5,000 bail, with no 10 percent option, and was released to a friend. Ptl. Victor Scott assisted with the arrest.
