Cops: Man on Run Hides in Mom's Closet

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hopatcong man with a warrant couldn't keep running from authorities, police said.

Sgt. Jospeh Magrini and Officers James Bianculli and Gerald Mancuso went to 24-year-old John Shaker's home to arrest him on a no-bail warrant out of Sussex County around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Magrini ordered Bianculli and Mancuso to cover the back door since Shaker ran from Sussex County Sheriffs officers last week on the same warrant, police said.

Magrini knocked on the door and heard sounds coming from the garage area, police said. When Shaker's mother answered the door, she told the sergeant she didn't believe her son was home, police said. But she went to look for Shaker after Magrini told her about the noise, police said.

Magrini asked to search the garage after the mother told him Shaker wasn't home, and she gave him permission, police said.

Magrini found Shaker, trying to cover himself with insulation, in a closet in the hall by the garage, police said.

Shaker was taken out of the closet, arrested and brought to the , where he was later handed over to officers from the Sussex County Sheriff's Office, police said.
