Fire Damages Jiggs Corner Music Saloon

Malfunctioning refrigerator causes blaze that spreads to the outside of the building.

Butler firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at Jiggs Corner Music Saloon Monday morning, authorities said.

The Butler Police Department received numerous calls at about 11 a.m. about a fire that broke out at the bar, Capt. Ciro Chimento said.

Emergency personnel discovered a refrigerator unit malfunctioned and caught on fire. The flames spread to the outside of the building.

The Butler Fire Department brought the fire under control within minutes.

Several neighboring businessmen battled the blaze with fire extinguishers before the fire department responded to the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was being investigated Monday afternoon.

Bartholdi Avenue was closed to traffic for a half hour while authorities investigated the blaze.

Chimento, Sgt.Scott Ricker, Detective Colleen Pascale, and Officers Jarred Schmiedhauser and Dimitri Clarke initially responded to the blaze.

Personnel from the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad and the Butler Electric Department also responded to the fire.
