Firehouse Construction May Not Be Complete Until September

Old Boonton Avenue firehouse expected to be demolished first week of August.

While the new Boonton Avenue firehouse, in , was originally , Borough Engineer Tom Boorady said that date is "aggressive" and the firehouse will likely be done by mid-September.

Boorady updated the Kinnelon Council on construction progress at the July 12 meeting.

"Most of the hard items are done and we're down to a lot of the finishing items," he said, explaining that most of the concrete flooring work is finished and sheetrock work is in progress.

"The hard date [for construction completion] is the first week of August, but that's an agressive date," he said.

Councilman Dan O'Dougherty said Liam Design/Build, the , has had some setbacks, though nothing unusual. He also said he has been to the site and is confident that the project is going smoothly.

"All the work is being done in a satisfactory manner," O'Dougherty said.

Boorady said the old firehouse is expected to be demolished the first week of August. However, Borough Engineer Paul Darmofalski said use of the new firehouse must be in place before the existing firehouse is demolished.

The county is scheduled to inspect the new firehouse this week.
