Hit-and-Run Driver Apparently Found High at Gym

Police said driver had two bags of marijuana in car.

A West Milford man was arrested at Monday after police said he was found to allegedly be in possession of marijuana and was involved in an accident where he left the scene to go into the gym.

Andrew B. Cuozzo, 20, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while under the influence of drugs. He was also issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving and possession of a controlled substance in a motor vehicle.

responded to the scene where a 28-year-old woman from Weehawken told police she was driving through the Meadtown Shopping Center parking lot when a 2007 Toyota hit the front of her vehicle. Police said the woman witnessed the driver of the vehicle, later determined to be Cuozzo, park his vehicle and enter the gym.

Ptl. Keith Kelly responded to the scene and spoke to Cuozzo inside the gym, at which time police said Kelly noticed Cuozzo to have glassy, bloodshot eyes and appear dazed.

Kelly followed Cuozzo to his vehicle so that he could retrieve his documents, and police said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle. After searching the vehicle, police said Kelly found two bags of marijuana and two pipes used to smoke marijuana.

Police gave Cuozzo several field sobriety tests, which he allegedly failed.

He was transported to the police station and later released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
