Japanese Police Superintendent Visits Kinnelon

Mayor said Masafumi Kondo was the first foreign dignitary to come to borough.

Masafumi Kondo, superintendent of the National Police Agency of Japan, visited the Thursday.

Kondo, who specializes in counterterrorism, said the reason for his visit was to ensure that in the event a safety concern arose with a Japanese traveler from his jurisdiction, he would have a relationship with the local department. Kondo is stationed in New York City until April and has visited other departments, including, recently, the Carlstadt Police Department.

Kondo met with Mayor Bob Collins, Kinnelon Police Chief John Finkle, Lt. John Schwartz, Councilman Gary Moleta, former Mayor Glenn Sisco and representatives of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.
