is reopened after being closed for nearly an hour Wednesday afternoon while police were investigating a message found at the school, according to the Kinnelon Public Schools website.
Kinnelon police Lt. John Schwartz said the message was written on a bathroom wall, but did not give details about the content of the message.
"There was something, barely legible, scribbled on a bathroom wall at the school," Schwartz said. "So, as a precaution, we secured the school and just did a quick run-through."
The Kinnelon school district alerted parents via textcaster that the school was closed, and directed them to the district website.
"Working with the we are investigating a message discovered in Kinnelon High School this afternoon. As a safety precaution, Kinnelon High School is currently closed until completion of this investigation by the appropriate authorities," the website said around 4 p.m.
At 5 p.m., the district sent an alert through textcaster that the school was open and all after school and night activities would be on as scheduled.
Kinnelon Public Schools Superintendent Jim Opiekun was not immediately available for comment.
