Riverdale Quarry Blasting Startles Kinnelon Residents

Residents alerted police of the blasts Thursday afternoon.

Kinnelon police alerted residents to blasting at the Riverdale Quarry Thursday afternoon.

Police issued the alert on Nixle, an alert system that police and emergency service personnel use to communicate quickly with residents.

“We had some people calling us and asking what was going on,” Detective Patrick McDonnell said. “That’s what we determined to be going on.”

The alert stated that Picatinny Arsenal and Tilcon were conducted the blasting. 

Picatinny Arsenal provides arms and munitions to the U.S. Armed Forces.

Tilcon produces materials and provides construction-related services for large-scale projects, including the Freedom Tower, in New York and New Jersey. The Riverdale Quarry is one of several in North Jersey the company owns.
