UPDATE: Kinnelon Police: Resident Saw Sparks Come Off Power Transformer on Fayson Lakes Road

Drivers were advised not to uses street Tuesday night due to icy conditions and power wire repairs.

According to Lt. John Schwartz, the department received a call from a resident at around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, saying that a transformer was sparking on Fayson Lakes Road. Schwartz said police contacted  to report the incident.

At around 5:47, Schwartz said police received a second call about the transformer.

When police arrived at the scene, Schwartz said police witnessed the transformer sparking before it "blew," causing a small fire.  arrived at the scene to put out the fire, Schwartz said, and as a result of the water used, a "serious ice condition" arose.

Police shut down the street between Oakwood and Cliff Trails while the Department of Public Works handled the situation. Schwartz said there were no accidents as a result of the transformer or the ice, and that there were no injuries.

Schwartz said Cutlass Road was also closed between 11:45 p.m. and about 12:40 a.m. while the DPW took care of a sever ice condition on the road.

While ice did not result in accidents on either road, Schwartz said there was an accident on Hornbeam Lane at around 8 p.m. Tuesday, in which a driver slid off the roadway. Schwartz said no one was injured in the accident.
