Ladder, Chainsaw Missing From Bloomingdale Shed

Resident said he believes items were taken a week ago.

A resident reported an Echo chainsaw and 20-foot extension ladder stolen from the shed at his Main Street home last week.

The resident filed the report Saturday but said he is unsure when exactly the alleged theft took place, but that the items had been missing for about a week.

  • Vernon Appel, 48, was arrested on disorderly conduct charges Friday after police said he allegedly got into a dispute with his neighbor on Poplar Street. Police responded at 12:50 a.m. and arrested Appel. He was released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
  • James Roche, 22, of Bloomingdale, was arrested on Saturday on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license after police said he was stopped while driving a motorcycle and allegedly making an improper pass on Hamburg Turnpike. Police said Roche was found to allegedly have a suspended driver's license and two warrants for his arrest out of Pequannock and Butler. He was arrested and transported to the Bloomingdale police station. Police said he posted bail on both warrants and was released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
  • Police responded to a report of lost hikers in the Norvin Green State Forest at 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday. Police said they were able to locate the hikers' vehicle on Glenwild Avenue and that the Bloomingdale Search and Rescue Team was deployed. The hikers were found and returned safely to their vehicle.
  • Police are investigating a report of a stolen mailbox from a Van Dam Avenue residence. According to police, the resident said several employees allegedly observed a male, possibly a juvenile, leaving the scene with a mailbox. Police spoke to the employees, but said none were able to provide a definitive description of the male. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 973-838-0158.
