Lightning Strike Caused Bloomingdale Fire, Police Say

Three adults escaped residential fire Wednesday afternoon.

Three adults are safe after escaping a burning home on Pearl Street Wednesday afternoon.

said that it was reported by a 9-1-1 caller that the house fire began after lightning struck the home around 4:30 p.m. Chief Mike Hudson said the fire had flames and smoke coming from the attic.

Fire officials from , and Bloomingdale arrived and put out the fire within 25 minutes, Hudson said. The adults who were in the home at the time were able to escape and no pets were reported to be inside. No injuries were reported.

The second floor of the home, which includes a bedroom and attic, are damaged, Hudson said. Bloomingdale Construction Official Dan Hagberg was on the scene and said a notice deeming the home an "unsafe structure" will be placed on the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department.

Butler Power & Light responded to cut off electricity to the house. Tri-Boro First Aid Squad also responded.
