Lodi Man Arrested on DWI Charges in Kinnelon

Police said man was driving erratically on Route 23 South.

A 61-year-old Lodi man was arrested in Kinnelon Sunday on DWI charges after police said they stopped him for allegedly having an expired registration and for driving erratically.

Joseph Carla was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and driving an unregistered motor vehicle.

said they smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Joseph Carla when they stopped his 2000 Lincoln on Route 23 South. Police also said he allegedly had difficulty finding his paperwork and that he had slurred speech.

Police asked Carla to perform several field sobriety tests, which police said he failed, and arrested him and transported to him the police station. He was released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
