UPDATED: Man Released From Hospital After Being Struck By Train

Police said injuries appeared not to be life-threatening.

Police said the 42-year-old man who was airlifted to the hospital was conscious but suffering from injuries to his hip and posterior after police said he was struck by a train near 140 Hamburg Turnpike, by First Student Transportation, in Bloomingdale Monday night.

The man, Peter Simmons, is a resident of Bloomingdale and was released from Morristown Medical Center after being treated on Tuesday according to NorthJersey.com.

Sgt. Keith Soules said the accident happened around 9 p.m., when a freight train that was travling at a low rate of speed struck the pedestrian.

According to Bloomingdale police, Allen Alloco, an engineer for the NY Susquehanna Line, said that while traveling, he noticed someone sitting on the left side of the train tracks and he immediately sounded the train's horn and applied the brakes. The train engineer said he saw the individual get up.

After stopping the train, Alloco and other crew members checked the area and found Simmons lying on the ground unconscious. Police said they noticed his injuries and called 9-1-1, at which point the Butler, Bloomingdale, Riverdale and West Milford Police Departments responded.

Soules said Simmons was transported to the field where a medevac then transported him to the Morristown Hospital Trauma Center. Police said the extent of Simmons' injuries and update on his condition is not known at this time.
