Police responded to an alleged assault near Hamburg Turnpike and Elizabeth Street on Thursday.
The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m., police said. Officer Kevin Peirsel found a 52-year-old Boonton man with a swollen and bloody lip in the parking lot of the former Riverside Pub, police said.
The man told police that he had a dispute with another man because of business deal; the second man felt the victim owed him money, police said.
Police said the second man punched the man several times in the face until he was knocked to the ground; the alleged assailant left the scene in a black SUV before authorities arrived, police said.
The injured man declined medical attention; he provided police with the alleged assailant’s name, police said.
Charges are pending against the alleged assailant.
