Cops: Man Had Drugs After Lying About Accident

Police said no crash occurred.

A 25-year-old man from Rock Hill, N.Y., was arrested on May 27 and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) after said he reported an alleged hit-and-run that police said did not actually occur.

Rick Schumacher was charged with possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said Schumacher reported the alleged accident and they responded to the scene at 1:02 a.m. While speaking to Schumacher, police said they noticed signs of use of a CDS and found a small bag of suspected marijuana and several items used to ingest marijuana in his vehicle. Schumacher was arrested and transported to the Bloomingdale police station. Police said an investigation revealed Schumacher’s vehicle and another vehicle never struck.

  • Police responded to a single-vehicle accident on Macopin Road on May 29 where a small bus with several senior citizens on board was trying to negotiate a turn near Camp Vacamas when the driver lost control and struck a guardrail. Police said the driver believed a flat front tire caused him to lose control. A passenger complained of pain in her arm and elbow and was transported to Chilton Hospital by . The bus was towed from the scene and West Milford police assisted with diverting southbound traffic on Macopin Road. Police said no summonses were issued.
  • Twenty-six-year-old Jennifer Garrison, of West Milford, was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of on Wednesday. Police said they were contacted by the Newton Police Department that they had Garrison in custody. Ptl. David Terpstra and Matron Linda Daly picked up Garrison and transported her to the Bloomingdale police station. A friend posted bail for Garrison and she was released.
