Man Jailed for Stealing Dog on Date Has Bail Lowered

23-year-old has cost reduced from $50,000 to $10,000 by Morristown Judge.

Stating the alleged crime was a third-degree theft and the accused had no prior arrests, Judge Robert Gilson in Morristown lowered the bail for Honey Ahmed, 23, of Elizabeth after he allegedly stole a dog and television from a Dover woman.

The alleged crime occurred when Ahmed went on a first date with the woman, who said she realized the following morning her Yorkshire terrier and flat-screen television were taken from her home.

The items were returned just a day later, at 3 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, and Ahmed was arrested and charged the following Tuesday.

Bail was originally set at $50,000, but was lowered by Gilson to $10,000 with a 10-percent option, according to nj.com. Ahmed told the court he is unemployed and lives with his parents, the report said.

As a provision of the bail being lowered, Ahmed can have no contact with the victim, the report said.

The two met on an online dating site, and the victim only knew Ahmed by the name of “Joel.” Ahmed has been lodged in Morris County Correctional Facility since his arrest.
