Man Pepper Sprayed After Allegedly Challenging Officers to Fight

The following arrest information was supplied by the Butler Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

After allegedly tearing off his shirt and challenging a police officer to a fight, Michael Rayfield, 42, of Butler, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Sunday night.

According to police, Sgt. Keith Soules and Ptl. George Beyloune responded to a report of illegal dumping on Main Street at 8:36 p.m., when they found Rayfield.

Police said Rayfield allegedly appeared highly intoxicated and was agitated that a male resident of the apartment complex where the dumpster was located was using the shared dumpster.

Sgt. Soules and Ptl. Beyloune told Rayfield that the dumpster is a jointly shared service for all residents of the complex, but police said Rayfield become more agitated at the resident and then at officers. At that point, Rayfield allegedly tore off his shirt and challenged Sgt. Soules to a fight, after throwing a cell phone at him.

said Sgt. Soules used pepper spray to subdue Rayfield, who was transported to the Butler police station.

He was released in his own recognizance and issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
