Men Arrested for Three-Month Burglary String

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said two men allegedly committed 19 commercial burglaries, including one in Kinnelon.

Two men have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries over the past three months, including in Kinnelon.

The men, George N. Devita, 50, of Paterson, and Khalid, J. Jafar, 42, of Clifton were charged with burglary and theft after the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said they were allegedly discovered to be involved in several liquor store and gas station burglaries over the past three months. The prosecutor's office said they had allegedly picked the locks of the stores in early morning hours and stolen cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash. A task force made up of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Bergen County Sheriff's Department, Special Investigation Squad and several police departments investigated the incidents.

According to information from Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli's office, Jafar and Devita were allegedly linked to 19 commercial burglaries in Morris, Bergen and Passaic counties and six burglary attempts in Bergen County.

Devita and Jafar were sent to the Bergen County jail in lieu of bail.
