Murder Conviction Leads to 40-Year Prison Sentence for Butler Woman

A Butler woman was sentenced to 40 years in state prison Friday after being convicted of murdering her husband inside their home in 2010.

Amalia Mirasola, 47, was found guilty of murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose on Jan. 31. She Carl Mirasola, who was 43 at the time of his death.

In addition to the prison sentence, the Hon. Robert Gilson, J.S.C. required that Mirasola serve 85 percent of her sentence under the state's No Early Release Act before she becomes eligible for parole, according to a press announcement of the sentencing by Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp. She will also have five years of parole supervision.

“The sentence was an appropriate exercise of the judge’s discretion and the court recognized the need for society to deter all from acts of violence, even those people who may suffer from illness," Knapp said. "Hopefully, the family finds solace.”

The state was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Troiano during the sentencing. Knapp thanked Butler Police Chief Ed Card and the Butler Police Department, Morris County Sheriff Ed Rochford, the Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit, the Morris County Medical Examiner's Office, state police and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit for their assistance with the case.
