Neighbor Fights Fire in Bloomingdale Basement

Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department member was in the right place at the right time.

Bloomingdale Volunteer Firefighter Edward Ball is well-trained in fighting fires and that training came in handy when his neighbor's house caught on fire on Sunday.

The Crane Avenue dwelling saw flames spread to the basement rafters just after 1 a.m. Bloomingdale police Ptl. Marc Loveland responded to a call of a smoke condition in the basement, according to a police report from Ptl. Dan Fletcher.

Before Loveland arrived at the home, Fletcher said Ball had already entered the house and extinguished the fire. Fletcher said officials believe the fire may have started from an electrical issue.
