Police Arrest Man on Marijuana Charges on Route 23

Arrest may have caused light traffic Tuesday afternoon.

A Riverdale man was arrested on Route 23 South Tuesday afternoon after police said he was driving erratically with a tire malfunction and allegedly had marijuana residue on his vehicle’s floorboards. Police said the arrest may have caused light traffic on Route 23.

Joseph Demauex, 24, was charged with operating a motor vehicle in possession of controlled dangerous substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana 50 grams or less, operating a motor vehicle with a hazardous tire condition and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Police said they stopped Demauex’s white Chevrolet on Route 23 South and allegedly found marijuana residue on the floorboards. Police also said they allegedly smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and found a larger quantity of marijuana hidden in the vehicle, as well as a small digital scale and several plastic bags.

Demauex was transported to the police station, where he was later released in his own recognizance with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
