A Bloomingdale man died early Saturday morning after driving the wrong way in the southbound lane of I-287 in Mahwah, Mahwah Lt. Phillip Tangel said.

Police said the other driver, Patrick Wypler, of Bethlehem, Pa., suffered “extensive injuries” and was airlifted to Hackensack University Medical Center's trauma unit. “He survived,” Tangel said.

New Jersey State Police charged Wypler, 45, with driving under the influence, according to State Police Sgt. Julian Castellanos.

Mahwah Police also said Andriac was traveling at a “high rate of speed,” which will be specifically determined after a crash scene analysis.

An autopsy of Andriac's body will determine whether or not he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the crash, Tangel said.

The investigation will be continued by the New Jersey State Police.
