Police: Man Had Pellet Pistol, Beer in Car

Kinnelon police said a West Milford man hid a pellet gun under the seat of the car.

A West Milford man was allegedly found with a pellet gun following a motor vehicle stop on Saturday,  said.

Casey H. Lightbody, 18, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and issued a summons for failure to produce documents and failure to maintain lane.

According to police, Lightbody was driving a 2001 Nissan in Kinnelon when he was stopped for failing to maintain his lane. Police said the car was actually registered to the passenger of the vehicle, Alexander H. Ross, 20, of Marlboro, N.Y., but that he had said he was not driving due to an injury. Police said neither of the men in the vehicle could produce a valid insurance card.

Police said they observed a 30-pack of beer in the vehicle, and subsequently searched the car, at which time they allegedly found a black pistol pellet gun wrapped in a red rag under the seat.

Lightbody and Ross were both arrested and transported to the police station, but police said Lightbody admitted that the gun was his. Ross was issued a summons for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and failure to produce documents. Both were released and issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.

Four West Milford teenagers were arrested after police determined they were allegedly under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS).

Police said they stopped the vehicle Jake P. Deprima, 19, was driving for failing to maintain its lane when they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Police said that upon questioning, Deprima allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening. Robert D. Guthrie, 19, and two underage passengers in the vehicle were checked and police said they all showed signs of being under the influence of drugs and that rolling papers were found in the car.

All four were arrested and transported to the police station. Deprima was charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia an issued summonses for failing to maintain lane and for having too many passengers in his vehicle with a provisional license. Guthrie was charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. The underage passengers were charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and released to their parents.
