Police: Woman Found Sleeping on Wheel in Traffic on Route 23

The following arrest information was supplied by the Kinnelon Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Pennsylvania woman was found sleeping on her steering wheel in traffic on Route 23 Monday afternoon before police said they found hypodermic needles and cooked heroin in her vehicle.

Natasha M. McCoy, 28, of Milford, PA, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of hypodermic needles after police said they awoke her to perform several field sobriety tests, which she failed.

Ptl. Nicholas Cifelli noticed McCoy’s green Jeep stopped in traffic at about 2:45 p.m. on Route 23, with other motorists going around her vehicle, when he was on Click It or Ticket Patrol. Ptl. Cifelli pulled up alongside the vehicle to check on the driver, at which point police said he observed McCoy passed out and with her head on the wheel. When Ptl. Cifelli exited his vehicle and attempted to awaken McCoy, police said she appeared disoriented and confused.

Police said McCoy told police that she was on several medications and that she was, in fact, a heroin user.

McCoy was arrested and transported to the police station. In addition to the drug charges, she was also issued summonses for obstructing traffic, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. She was released and issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
