Nearly 7,000 Bernards JCP&L customers remained without power early Monday morning.
According to the utility company's outage map, 6,660 were still out as of 5 a.m.
The Bernards Township website said Sunday night that JCP&L was reporting 6,314 out of 13,047 Bernards Township customers remained without power, and about 52 percent of customers have had power restored. More detailed JCP&L updates and also information on election polling sites are on the website.
Food, water and ice were available at Bernards Township police headquarters, Lt. Mike Shimsky, who heads the township's Office of Emergency Management, said at 5:40 p.m. on Sunday.
Shimsky said he did not have a status report on Halloween trick or treating, which the governor had delayed statewide until Monday. Nearby Bernardsville has called off trick or treating until further notice after power is restored.
YMCA at Riverwalk to open 5:15 a.m. Monday
Meanwhile, the Somerset Hills YMCA is due to open again at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, to both non-members and members alike. More than 120 non-members had signed in for showers on Sunday, the staff said. The facility is scheduled to remain open until 10:30 p.m. on Monday. However, the YMCA's main facility at 140 Mount Airy Road remained closed, without power, as of Sunday night.
On Sunday afternoon, the Hills Highlands Master Association clubhouse was also reported to be open for residents for showering and powering up laptops and cellphones.
Meanwhile, some previously blocked roads had been opened as of about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Status update on Maple and Finley avenues
Maple Avenue from Collyer Lane north to Route 202 was then open, although the large tree blocking South Maple Avenue by Lord Stirling Stable remained closed, said Township Committeeman John Malay.
North Finley also is open from the center of Basking Ridge to Route 202 in Bernardsville, Malay confirmed at 3 p.m. However, he said that South Finley from the center of town south remained closed, although it was being worked on and a police vehicle was able to pass through.
School remains closed on Monday
Bernards schools again are closed on Monday. School officials had asked that residents check the township website for further updates.
The 3 p.m. update said JCP&L is currently working or expected to work soon on the following roads, to restore the power to some, if not all of the homes on these roads:
Fawn Lane, Rickey Lane, Century Court, Harvest Way, Pacer Court, Somerville Road, Spruce Street, Washington Valley Road, Long Road, Parkwood Lane, Cambridge ln Cedar Street, Kings Ridge Road, Primrose Lane, Carriage Way, Deer Ridge Road, Emerald Valley in Milito Way, Mountain Road, Van Holten Road, Old Stagecoach Road, Ray Court, Evergreen Place Shadowbrook Lane, Dogwood Way, Johnston Circle, Martinsville Road and Mt Prospect Road.
